Enzo Maresca has been criticised by most Chelsea supporters in the past few weeks following his substitution decision in the games against Manchester United and Brighton.

Enzo Maresca saw his Chelsea side play with 10 men in their last two Premier League games against Manchester United and Brighton with Robert Sanchez and Trevor Chalobah seeing Reds in both games respectively. Maresca got the short end of the stick after he decided to take out the attacking players and bring in defenders which did not work in both games.

Maresca was speaking about his substitution decisions after Chelsea received red cards in both games during his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Benfica in the UEFA Champions League.

He said,

It’s a learning process for me. After reviewing the last two games [against Brighton and Manchester United], I probably could have done better with my decisions. Football can be a crazy game. It’s not something normal [having red cards in games]. I can learn, and do better when we have ten players. But we are calm because there is very good feeling in the squad and compared to last season, we have all improved. Me, personally as a manager, I feel better than last year but there are always things to learn.”

Chelsea have failed to secure a victory in their last three Premier League games against Brentford, Manchester United and Brighton. Maresca hopes he can lead his team to victory against Benfica and Liverpool.
