Six players were nominated for the award with Manchester City’s forward player Erling Haaland leading the line amongst the contenders for the Premier League player of the month.
(1) Erling Haaland
Haaland scored five goals in September, three more than any other player across the Premier League. The Norwegian striker directly contributed to six goals in the month taking his goal tally to eight Premier League goals.
(2) Daichi Kamada (Crystal Palace)
The Crystal Palace midfielder has been one of the stars of Oliver Glasner’s side, who are the only unbeaten team remaining in the Premier League this season. The midfielder created five chances and won 17 duels across matches against Sunderland, West Ham United and Liverpool.
(3) Yankuba Minteh (Brighton)
The winger directly contributed to three goals in September, the joint-most after Haaland, producing a goal involvement in all three of his appearances. Minteh got a wonderful assist in a 2-1 loss to AFC Bournemouth before scoring in a 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur. The Gambian was key in Brighton & Hove Albion’s 3-1 win at Chelsea, getting another assist with a fantastic cross.
(4) Robin Roefs (Sunderland)
Sunderland have been fantastic since their return to the Premier League. The Black Cats success can partly be attributed to goalkeeper Roefs, who helped his team go unbeaten through September to finish the month in fifth place. The Dutchman kept two clean sheets and made 13 saves, the second-most of all goalkeepers, as Sunderland drew with Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, and beat Nottingham Forest.
(5) Granit Xhaka (Sunderland)
The former Arsenal midfielder, now 33 years old, set up both of his team’s goals in September as well as winning 23 duels, combining creativity with grit in the heart of midfield.
(6) Martin Zubimendi (Arsenal)
The Arsenal midfielder scored his first Premier League goals in September. Zubimendi opened the scoring in Arsenal’s 3-0 victory against Forest with a brilliant volley and followed up with a header to complete a first ever brace of his top-flight club career.
