Manchester United boss, Ruben Amorim, has revealed why he finally played his new goalkeeper, Senne Lammens against Sunderland on Saturday.

The Belgian goalkeeper finally made his Manchester United debut in the Premier League, having been kept on the bench since arriving at Old Trafford in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils were in 14th position going into the game on Saturday as Amorim fights to save his job.

Lammens, 21, was forced to wait to make his first appearance.

Before now, Amorim had preferred Turkish goalkeeper, Altay Bayındir who replaced Andre Onana as United’s number 1 following the Cameroonian’s loan move to Turkey.

Bayindir has struggled to convince and was guilty of committing several errors in the most recent calamitous defeat at Brentford.

After their 2-0 victory over Sunderland on Saturday, Amorim explained his decision to switch goalkeepers and select Lammens against the Black Cats.

“It’s rotation,” he said. “Everybody has to be ready to play. We need to win this game and every opponent is different. We have to find the best characteristics to win the game.

“What matters is the next game but we saw the last game we need to improve in certain things that are really crucial to win football matches.”

The win took the Red Devils to ninth place in the Premier League after seven games.
