Birmingham City manager, Chris Davies has explained why Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle dropped defender, Bright Osayi-Samuel from Nigeria’s squad to face Lesotho and the Benin Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Recall that Chelle recently made two changes to his squad to face Lesotho and the Benin Republic due to injuries.

The Malian replaced Osayi-Samuel with Zaidu Sanusi, while Uche Christantus took the place of Cyriel Dessers.

Speaking on the development, Davies suggested that Osayi-Samuel was dropped by Chelle because the 27-year-old was not fit to play.

“He [Osayi-Samuel] was not really close, he just could not get over that knock that he had,” Davies told Birmingham Mail.

“I don’t think we are talking about something that is going to keep him for long, but he was not ready.”
