Bafana Bafana head coach, Hugo Broos has explained why South Africa played a 0-0 draw with Zimbabwe in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday.

Broos watched as South Africa drew goalless with Zimbabwe at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

The result leaves South Africa in second position in Group C on 15 points, with two points behind leaders Benin Republic.

Speaking to SABC Sport after the game, Broos insisted that his team was not lucky against Zimbabwe despite trying everything against them.

“Yes, it’s true, I think we tried everything today, we didn’t have the luck either,” Broos said.

“One moment on the ball line saved, one on the post, you also need a little bit of luck in such games and we didn’t have it on our side today.

“We fought for it, we did everything, tried everything, but ok, you see a very motivated Zimbabwe team against us, and we knew it would be tough, but that is also football.”
