Veteran Nollywood actor Dele Odule has stated that Western values cannot diminish Africa’s long-standing acceptance of polygamy, emphasizing that responsibility and discipline matter more than trying to align with foreign ideals.

Speaking in response to public rumours and social media speculations about his personal life, Odule explained that many people tend to twist his motivational messages into gossip for attention.

“At one point, people said I had ten children with ten different women. I didn’t bother to deny it. After all, it’s not a crime in Nigeria. If it’s a sin, I’ll answer for it when I get to heaven,” he remarked.

The veteran actor maintained that polygamy remains part of African tradition, arguing that as long as a man can provide for and manage his family responsibly, there is nothing wrong with it.

“Polygamy is deeply rooted in African culture. The Western world preaches one man, one wife, but we are Africans. The key is to be disciplined and accountable,” he said.

Reflecting on his career, Odule admitted that fame often comes with challenges especially in an era dominated by social media where narratives are easily distorted for clicks. However, he noted that focus and integrity have helped him sustain a clean image in the public eye.

“I’ve learned not to argue unnecessarily. If what’s said about me doesn’t affect my reputation, I simply let it go. As long as I’m not accused of any crime, I don’t dwell on it,” he explained.

He also credited his family for keeping him grounded, saying that at home he is neither a star nor a celebrity but a husband and father who strives to devote most of his time to his loved ones.

“Consistency, discipline, and self-awareness keep me balanced. Once you truly understand yourself, you can overcome anything,” Odule shared.

Offering words of wisdom to upcoming entertainers, he warned that the pursuit of fame can easily lead to missteps if not handled with patience and self-control.

“If you’re joining the entertainment industry, be cautious. Many people run into trouble not because they intended to, but because they lost focus,” he cautioned.

Odule urged young actors to prioritize skill development and professionalism over quick fame or financial gain. “Don’t chase fame or money; chase mastery. When you perfect your craft, success will naturally follow,” he advised.

The actor, who later pursued a degree in Mass Communication to broaden his knowledge, added that his love for acting has never wavered.

“Acting has always been my passion. Going back to school wasn’t about changing careers but improving myself. Education enhances experience,” he concluded.
