The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 21-year-old housewife, Maryam Muntari, for allegedly st@bbing her neighbour, Ahmed Kalo, to d3ath over an alleged r@pe attempt in Idoji-Okene community, Okene Local Government Area of the state.

The spokesperson of the command, CSP William Aya, who confirmed the incident stated that the woman is in police custody for further investigation.

“The incident happened at about 5:30 a.m. on Thursday at Idoji quarters, Okene. One Ahmed Isah (Kalo) was st@bbed to d3ath on the neck in his room by one Maryam Muntari, 21 years old, of Idoji-Okene,” Aya said.

“The suspect has been arrested. Investigation is still ongoing, while the corpse has been taken to the Reference Hospital for autopsy.”

According to Daily Trust, reports from the community indicate that the woman is a nursing mother and the wife of a man, who has been a neighbour and political acquaintance of the deceased in Idoji-Okene for years

Witnesses said a scream for help from Kalo’s compound in the morning attracted neighbours, who then discovered him on his bed in a pool of blood.

According to locals, Kalo met Maryam at the water-fetching point early that morning and asked her to help him carry his jerrycan of water to his house, which she obliged.

It was reported that upon reaching his house, the man allegedly locked the main door of his room while she was dropping the water in one of the rooms.

Thereafter, he allegedly dragged the nursing mother to his bedroom, threatening her with a knife to comply with his demand for s3x.

“Sensing danger, the nursing woman reportedly feigned compliance and followed him quietly to his bedroom. Believing she was compliant, he was said to have dropped the knife and decided to pull off his garment,” said Enezi Nuhu, a resident.

“The woman seized the opportunity, picked up a knife and stabbed the man with it. His scream for help drew the attention of his cousin and neighbors. He d1ed immediately from the bleeding,” Nuhu added.

However, the slain man’s cousin offered a different account, saying Kalo’s cry for help made people to rush to his bedroom where they found him in a pool of blood.

“The woman has been coming to our compound. Both went to fetch water, but I did not know when the woman went upstairs. It was Kalo’s shout that drew their attention upstairs,” the cousin said on condition of anonymity.

“Rushing upstairs with others, they met the woman coming downstairs. On meeting Kalo in pain, he told them with his last breath that the woman stabbed him, before he died,” the cousin added

He noted that the woman’s husband later reported the incident to the police station, stating that someone tried to r@pe his wife and she st@bbed him.

Kalo, said to be over 65 years old and an ex-staff of the Iron Ore Industry, Itakpe, was reportedly staying alone in the family house at the time of the incident.

  • The abducted principal of the Junior Secondary School (JSS), Naharati in Abaji Area Council of the FCT, Zakari Abdulkadir Yelwa and his daughter, Hafsat Dauda, have regained their freedom. LIB had reported that kidnappers invaded the victims’ residence opposite the Government Science Technical College (GSTC), Abaji last Tuesday night, October 21, and whisked away the principal, his wife, and his daughter. The principal’s wife, Mrs. Rakiya Zakari Yelwa, was ordered to return home by the kidnappers when she could not walk fast. The principal, while narrating his experience to Daily Trust at his residence on Sunday, October 25, said he and his daughter were freed on Saturday night after paying a N3.1 million ransom. He said life in the kidnappers’ den was like “hell,” and he prays that no one experiences such trauma. The principal said he and his daughter trekked through the forest throughout the night until they arrived at the kidnappers’ camp “On that very night, we walked throughout the night till dawn. As the morning set in, they kept us in a valley until it was getting dark again before we continued trekking until we arrived at their camp,” he said. According to him, his abductors fed him and his daughter with garri and yam, which, he said, they harvested from some people’s farms near the camp. He said the kidnappers used pieces of cloth to cover their faces until they were freed around 6:45 pm on Saturday at a forest that borders Toto LGA of Nasarawa and Kogi states. He added that apart from the N3.1 million cash ransom, the kidnappers also collected two cartons of malt, one carton of milk, bread, and some packets of cigarettes The principal thanked his colleagues, friends, and family members for their support and prayers. He also commended the vigilantes for their swift response during the attack at his residence.
