Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has refuted suggestions that Afrobeats is experiencing its weakest phase in the last twenty years.

In recent discussions, notable figures in the music industry, including Paul Okoye (Paulo) and DJ Big N, expressed concerns that the genre is losing momentum. However, during her appearance at the Unstoppable Africans event, Savage confidently declared that Afrobeats remains a global force that cannot be silenced.

According to the “Somebody’s Son” crooner, rather than fading away, the genre continues to expand its influence dominating international charts and filling arenas worldwide.

Speaking further, Tiwa reflected on the transformative cultural impact of Afrobeats. She revealed that as a child growing up in London, she once felt uncomfortable about her African identity. But today, the global success of Afrobeats has filled her with pride and reaffirmed the beauty of her heritage.

“Afrobeats is the fastest-growing genre in the world. We built it from nothing no support, no structure, no initial belief, not even from our own people,” Savage said.

“I remember when I wasn’t proud of being African. But now, I’m so proud because of what Afrobeats has become. People once said it would have just fifteen minutes of fame, but here we are selling out stadiums and topping global charts.”

Savage also emphasized the growing presence of Africans in global spaces, noting,

“I heard that one in every four Black people is Nigerian or African. So, we are not going anywhere. They can try to quiet us down, but our music isn’t stopping. We are Africans and we are unstoppable.”
