Former Chelsea man, Joe Cole, has said that the club needs to aim at winning bigger trophies than they did last season.

Chelsea won the Europa Conference League and the Fifa Club World Cup last season and Cole noted these two trophies do not carry the same weight as a Premier League, an FA Cup, a Champions League, or even a League Cup (Carabao Cup)

He said the Blues must win a big trophy next season when asked what constitutes a successful season for his former side.

Cole told Paddy Power, “This is season four under this ownership. There are two trophies, albeit new trophies that don’t carry the same weight as a Premier League, an FA Cup, a Champions League, or even a League Cup.”

He said that fans should only expect Enzo Maresca’s side to comfortably finish among the to top teams and play in the Champions League again next season, adding, “I don’t think the squad’s strong enough to compete with Arsenal. they won’t win the league.

“And next season, they have to be winning the big trophies, because that would be five seasons into this project.”

Chelsea will return to the Premier League on Saturday with a trip to north London where they will face third-placed Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
