Former Liverpool striker, Michael Owen has given some reasons Mohamed Salah is struggling so far this season for the Reds.

Salah has scored just three goals and provided two assists in nine Premier League appearances so far this season.

However, Owen believes the Egyptian’s age and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure from Anfield to join Real Madrid are the key reasons for the drop in the winger’s form.

The Englishman, however, expressed confidence that Salah will get back to his best soon.

Speaking to Sky Bet (via GOAL), Owen said: “Salah has been scoring goals for years and years. If there is anyone in the Premier League you should not doubt, it’s him.

“That said, if there is something more going on, then age could be a factor – he is 33 now.

“I retired at that age myself, so you can’t go on forever. That is one possible reason.

“Another is that there is no Trent Alexander-Arnold feeding him those balls anymore – the dynamic has changed.

“Conor Bradley plays differently; he looks to run past Salah rather than serve him. I did some analysis on TV showing that Salah is picking up the ball about 10 per cent deeper on average than last season.”
