No fewer than 80 Nigerians have been deported by Libyan authorities after they were found detained in different holding facilities across the country and residing without proper documents.

The repatriation, carried out on Wednesday through Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli, was coordinated by Libya’s Department for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM) in collaboration with the Nigerian Consulate.

Migrant Rescue Watch, a group monitoring migrant rights and welfare in Libya, confirmed the operation in a post on X, noting that the deportation was executed following directives from the Libyan Judicial Police.

“Judicial Police Dept. on orders of Public Prosecutor’s Office transferred a group of undocumented migrant females of Nigerian nationality to DCIM custody in Tripoli. All females were served with judicial deportation order and are awaiting deportation,” the organisation stated.

Providing further details, it added, “#Libya 11.11.25 – DCIM with Nigerian consular support, repatriated 80 migrants of Nigerian nationality via Mitiga Int. Airport in Tripoli.
