Controversial Nigerian singer Seun Kuti has weighed in on the viral confrontation between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Naval officer Ahmad Yerima, a video that has stirred widespread reactions across the country.
The heated exchange between Wike and the young officer had earlier drawn comments from various figures, including social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), who faulted the minister’s behavior and warned him against encroaching on land intended for his NGO.
Reacting to the saga, Seun Kuti criticized both his close friend VDM and Yerima, arguing that the officer’s actions were far from courageous. According to him, true bravery would have been refusing to follow orders to guard what he described as “illegal land” and instead upholding the Nigerian Constitution.
Kuti asserted that real courage lies in defending the law, adding that Yerima’s so-called bravery was misplaced. He went as far as to say that true defiance would have been the officer boldly telling Wike, “Your father is a fool.”
The singer didn’t stop there he described the conduct of both Wike and Yerima in the viral clip as shameful, calling them “cowards” who embarrassed the nation.
Kuti further argued that if Yerima and others in the military were genuinely brave, banditry and insecurity wouldn’t be ravaging the country. He concluded by noting that the Nigerian military’s weaknesses became apparent only after it was deployed to fight insurgents, revealing a lack of proper equipment, weapons, and armored vehicles.
