Reno Omokri has criticised Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his recent comment celebrating the Super Eagles’ 4-1 victory against Gabon.

Obi had expressed joy after Nigeria’s strong win, but his excitement triggered a sharp and direct response from Omokri, a strong supporter of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Omokri tackles Obi over congratulatory message

Obi, in a post on X on Thursday, said he watched the match despite a busy day that took him from Lagos to Abuja and then Anambra.

He congratulated the Super Eagles and praised their performance, describing the victory as proof that Nigeria can excel globally when talents receive support.

Obi wrote that the win made him proud and reminded Nigerians of “the possibility of a better, stronger, and more united Nigeria.”

However, Omokri reacted strongly to Obi’s comments. He accused the former governor of being inconsistent in his attitude towards the country.

Omokri questions Obi’s patriotism

Omokri asked why Obi was suddenly celebrating Nigeria after recently describing the country as “now disgraced.”

He described Obi as a “fair-weather friend” who praises Nigeria only when things go well.

Omokri wrote: “Ah ah! Peter? Youth are now proud of Nigeria because we defeated Gabon? Was it not you who described Nigeria as a ‘Now disgraced country’ two days ago? You are the true definition of a fair-weather friend.”

His criticism has since generated reactions across social media, with supporters from both sides defending their preferred political figures.
