Arsenal Football Club are the latest club to be hit with injuries to some of its key players after coming from the recent international break, with both Ricardo Calafiori and Gabriel Maghales returning injured.
The Brazilian centre-back was substituted while on duty with the Samba boys. Subsequent scans revealed that the damage was severe enough to require surgery, ruling him out for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
Gabriel has been one of Arsenal’s most consistent performers, providing stability, aerial dominance, and leadership in defence. His absence will not only affect defensive depth but also disrupt Arsenal’s chemistry at the back with William Saliba.
The head coach of Brazil, Carlo Ancelotti spoke about the injury situation of Gabriel Maghales. He apologised to everyone who is involved with the player and hopes he gets a quick recovery.
He said,
“Is his injury serious or not? I don’t know either. He suffered a closed muscle injury. Our medical team will conduct a more thorough examination tomorrow. We sincerely apologise for his injury; it’s really something no one wants. When a player is injured, you always hope they will be able to recover well and come back as soon as possible.”
On the other hand, Riccardo Calafiori also returned to Arsenal from his assignment with the Italian national team. However, there are reports that it was only a precautionary measure and he should be available for the game against Tottenham.
Arsenal fans will hope both players will be available in time for the double London derby against Tottenham and Chelsea.
