Super Eagles’ rocky defender, Calvin Bassey, has lamented the team’s absence in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, the USA and Mexico.
Nigeria’s hopes of playing at the World Cup were dashed away in Rabat, Morocco, on Sunday where they suffered a 4-3 defeat to Morocco on penalty shootout in the final of the playoffs.
Bassey was outstanding in Super Eagles defence but was unable to score the very first penalty for the team during the shootout.
Bassey, who stepped out as Nigeria’s first penalty taker, ballooned his effort over the crossbar.
The Fulham defender spoke just a few words to reporters in the mixed zone, “It was nice. A lot happened but it is just what it is.”
Bassey will return to Fulham where his side will face high-flying Sunderland in the Premier League next weekend.
This means that the Nigeria international would come against DR Congo midfielder, Noah Sadiki once again if they are fit enough to play.
