DR Congo’s team manager, Dodo Landu, has claimed he was praying during the penalty shoot-out with Nigeria, in a 2026 World Cup playoff final last Sunday.
Landu’s reponse is aimed at Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, who claimed he spotted someone in the opposition area using voodoo.
Chelle could be seen angrily opposing Landu, who was pacing, gesturing, and murmuring near the touchline.
The two sets of officials had to be separated as the Leopards went on to win 4-3.
“During Chancel’s penalty kick, I was praying for him to score,” Landu said, according to Soccerent.
“Immediately, the Nigerian coach thought I was performing voodoo.”
DR Congo will be Africa’s representative at the intercontinental playoffs in March.
