Sevilla striker Akor Adams has lamented the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
Akor noted that qualifying would have been a way to bring joy to Nigerians in the face of the current challenges in the country.
Nigeria was beaten 4-3 in a penalty shootout by DR Congo on Sunday, a defeat that ended any hopes of qualifying for the tournament, which will be hosted in three North American countries.
Adams, who came on for Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen at halftime following his injury, did not pose much threat to the Leopards’ defense but converted his penalty during the shootout.
Adams shared his emotions publicly, posting on social media: “As a Nigerian, nothing hurts more than missing out on what could bring the most joy to my people amidst all that is happening in our dear country.”
He also scored against Lesotho and Gabon during the World Cup qualifiers.
