Manchester United hero, Nicky Butt has described as scary the manner Kobbie Mainoo is being treated at the club.
He believes the player deserves better treatment at Old Trafford but has continued to find himself out of Ruben Amorim’s team.
The 20-year-old academy graduate became a first team player in the 2023-24 season under Erik ten Hag and went on to play 32 games across all competitions that season.
He was called up to the England team due to his performance and eventually won a place in Gareth Southgate’s starting XI.
But since the arrival of Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford, the player no longer gets playing time.
Butt, the midfielder’s former coach in the academy, is concerned by his lack of progress after a blistering start to his career.
“I am worried about him because he’s a superstar,” Butt told Sky Sports
ts.
“I know the talent that he’s got. The scary thing for me is that if Kobbie Mainoo were playing for Crystal Palace, for example, Man United would go and buy him for £60–70 million, guaranteed. So it is alarming that he’s not playing a lot.
“…It’s sad because I know how much he loves football and the football club.”
