Fresh controversy has erupted in the ongoing dispute between the family of the late singer Mohbad and his widow, Omowunmi, as the singer’s father released a new statement questioning the legitimacy of their union.
In the recorded message, Mohbad’s father clarified that he never witnessed or approved any traditional marriage rites between his son and Omowunmi, insisting he only attended an introduction ceremony.
He further questioned who received her bride price, maintaining that no formal wedding ever took place.
“When my son was alive, and Cynthia claimed to be pregnant, I felt it was necessary to meet her family properly.
When we got to the venue, I saw a lot of the lady’s family members sitting there. We completed the introduction, and I met my son’s father-in-law for the first time. But I was shocked to hear claims that a traditional wedding happened without any knowledge or even the presence of the family head. Who collected the bride price?”
He also alleged that Mohbad had, at some point, withdrawn plans to formalise the marriage after accusing Omowunmi of infidelity.
“He said he caught her with another man, informed his friend Myson and his elder sibling and mother, and then decided to tell me. That was why he called off the marriage plans”.
According to him, these allegations form the basis of his renewed demand for a DNA test to confirm the paternity of the late singer’s son.
“And that is one of the reasons why I’m asking for DNA”.
Wunmi takes legal action to safeguard Mohbad’s estate
The development comes shortly after Omowunmi filed legal processes to protect Mohbad’s estate from unauthorised claims, prompting custodial and inheritance debates between both families. Earlier, Mohbad’s relatives publicly warned her against using their surname in any official or private records until paternity is legally established, reiterating that no valid statutory or customary marriage existed between the couple.
