Andre Onana and Vincent Aboubakar have been excluded from Cameroon’s final squad for this month’s Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.
The decision has sparked controversy and shock among fans and pundits.
The duo, regarded as two of the Indomitable Lions’ most experienced players, will not feature at the tournament.
According to a Fabrizio Romano post on Monday: “André Onana and Vincent Aboubakar have been left out of the Cameroon squad for the AFCON.”
The absence of Onana, a goalkeeper who has played at top European clubs, and Aboubakar, the veteran forward and long-serving captain, signals a new direction under the team’s refreshed leadership.
Onana also fell out of favour at Manchester United and is currently on loan to Turkish side Trabzonspor for the remainder of the 2025–26 season.
