Nigerian Afrobeats singer Portable has raised the alarm over an individual impersonating him and performing his songs at live events.
The controversial artiste issued a public warning, stating that he is ready to reward anyone who identifies and apprehends a lookalike caught performing his music on stage. According to Portable, a cash reward of ₦500,000 awaits anyone who brings such a person to him.
While he noted that copying his hairstyle or fashion sense is not an issue, the singer made it clear that performing his songs without permission crosses the line and amounts to fraud.
Addressing fans and security agencies, Portable said that any lookalike found performing his music should be arrested and handed over to him. He emphasized that the songs being performed are officially released on streaming platforms and belong solely to him.
He further stressed that the act is deceptive, explaining that the impersonator is not promoting original work but exploiting his music for personal gain. Portable reiterated that anyone caught in such an act should be turned over to the authorities, adding that he would personally ensure the promised reward is paid.
