Manchester United now look very likely to finish this campaign without any silverware, after they were defeated 2-1 by Brighton in the FA Cup third round on Sunday evening.
The Red Devils, who are not in any European competition this season, had been eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Grimsby Town last year.
Against the Seagulls, the hosts started brighty, but went behind through Brajan Gruda’s effort in the 12th minute.
Former United striker, Danny Welbeck, then doubled Brighton’s lead with a smart finish.
Although Benjamin Sesko pulled one back, it proved to be a mere consolation.
United’s next game will be in the Premier League against rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford.
