Morocco head coach, Walid Regragui, has claimed Brahim Diaz missed a late penalty against Senegal in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, because he was “disturbed”.
Diaz had the chance to seal victory for the hosts with the last kick of the match.
But following a 17-minute delay due to protests, the Real Madrid forward saw his weak panenka effort saved by Eduoard Mendy.
Diaz’s tame effort has even led to speculation that he missed because of the controversy surrounding the penalty.
But Regragui told reporters: “He had a lot of time before taking the penalty which must have disturbed him.
“But we can’t change what happened. That is how he chose to take the penalty. We need to look forwards now.”
