The Super Eagles of Nigeria have reached a new height on the latest 2026 FIFA ranking following a successful AFCON 2025 campaign.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have soared to a new milestone in the latest FIFA World Rankings, reclaiming their status as one of the elite forces in global football.

In the first update of 2026, Nigeria has officially climbed to 26th in the world, marking the first time the three-time African champions have reached this peak since the golden era of 2010.

The rise follows a stellar run under the management of Eric Chelle and a podium finish at the recently concluded AFCON 2025.

The last time Nigeria enjoyed such a lofty position was in the lead-up to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Since then, the Super Eagles have experienced a roller-coaster of fortunes, occasionally slipping out of the top 50 entirely during periods of transition.

The move is fueled largely by Nigeria’s dominance over higher-ranked opponents in late 2025 and early 2026, including crucial victories in World Cup qualifiers and the continental tournament in Morocco.

With stars like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Alex Iwobi consistently delivering world-class performances, the Super Eagles have accumulated the coefficient points necessary to leapfrog traditional powerhouses like South Korea and Sweden.
