The Ondo State Police Command has arraigned a 20-year old labourer, Godpower Emeka, before an Akure Chief Magistrates’s Court for allegedly st@bbing a teenage boy to d3ath following a minor disagreement.
Emeka, whose residential address was not disclosed in court, was charged with conspiracy and murder.
The prosecutor, Augustine Omhenemhen, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence on December 26, 2025, at about 3:00 p.m. in Ore, Ondo State.
According to the prosecution, Emeka allegedly st@bbed one Obinna Edwin, 19, on the neck with a broken bottle of Captain Jack Dry Gin, an act which resulted in teenager’s d3ath.
Omhenemhen said the alleged offence contravened Sections 324 and 316 of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2006, which prescribe d3ath penalty for offenders.
The plea of the defendant was not taken. The prosecutor urged the court to remand Emeka in an appropriate correctional facility pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
However, counsel to the defendant, T.A. Dada, appealed to the court to adjourn the matter to enable him file a counter-affidavit to the prosecution’s written application seeking the defendant’s remand.
In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi, ordered that the defendant be remanded in police custody pending the determination of the remand application.
The case was adjourned to February 4, 2026 for hearing and possible ruling.
