Gunmen suspected to be bandits have k!lled an Islamic cleric, Alhaji Zainu Mada, in Gusau, the Zamfara State after collecting N2m ransom.

The victim, Alhaji Zainu Mada, was reportedly kidnapped by gunmen along the Kotorkoshi–Mada Road some days ago before he was eventually k!lled.

According to sahare reporters, the bandits also collected N70,000 w0rth of airtime and two mobile phones from his family.

The Chairman of Gusau Local Government Area, Abubakar Imam, who confirmed the incident described it as tragic and unacceptable.

The chairman, who visited the family of the slain cleric, was accompanied by a lawmaker representing Gusau II Constituency in the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Liman.

During the visit, he sympathised with the bereaved family and prayed for God’s forgiveness for the deceased, asking that he be granted Aljannah Firdaus.

His funeral prayer was conducted on Friday evening in his hometown, Mada, where hundreds of residents and sympathisers gathered to pay their last respects.

Mada town has remained a hotspot of banditry, with armed men repeatedly terrorising the area, reportedly due to its commercial activities.

Several residents have lost their lives, while millions of naira have been paid as ransom over time.
