“God Will Punish You”- Vdm Slams Ekiti Governor, Lawmakers Over N68m Healthcare Budget

Popular social commentator VeryDarkMan (VDM) has ignited widespread outrage online after condemning the Ekiti State Government for what he called an appallingly low allocation to healthcare in the state’s proposed 2026 budget.

In a video that quickly went viral on social media, VDM accused the Ekiti State Governor and the House of Assembly of prioritizing personal comfort over the welfare of residents. He warned that their actions could attract divine punishment.

“God will punish you not just you, but every member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly. When you have no fear of God, you invite His judgment,” VDM stated.

VDM highlighted that the state’s proposed 2026 budget totals about N415.5 billion, yet only N68 million was allocated to primary healthcare for the entire population. He questioned how such a meager sum could meet the needs of millions of residents, noting that the last census in 2006 put Ekiti’s population at roughly 2.3 million.

“Even if we generously assume the population has grown to over twenty million, how can you provide adequate healthcare for elderly people, pregnant women, and children with just N68 million?” he asked.

The activist further claimed that only N1.6 million was set aside for medicines, lab services, and medical supplies, while legislators reportedly approved much higher amounts for themselves.

VDM also highlighted several controversial budget items, including N618 million for honoraria and sitting allowances, N150 million for office furniture maintenance, N24 million for refreshments and meals, and more than N100 million for office equipment.

“You spend more on food, furniture, and sitting allowances than on hospitals. God will punish you,” he reiterated.

He also criticised what he called vague and duplicated budget entries, questioning the rationale behind allocating hundreds of millions for new equipment while also budgeting for the maintenance of existing ones.

VDM concluded by pointing out the disparity between officials, who often seek medical care abroad or in private hospitals, and ordinary citizens, especially in rural areas, who are left dependent on underfunded primary health centres.
