The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man, Alhaji Hassan Umaru, for k!lling one Sukari Abdul over a dispute involving his wife.

The incident, which occurred in Bundila village, Gulani Local Government Area on Sunday, February 1, 2026, stemmed from Umaru’s suspicion that Abdul was having an affair with his wife.

According to the PPRO, Umaru allegedly attacked the victim with a sharp cutlass, inflicting fatal injuries to his neck.

Police officers responded to the incident and rushed the victim to a hospital where he was confirmed d3ad by a doctor.

The suspect was immediately apprehended, while the cutlass used in committing the offence was recovered.

The spokesperson of the command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, who disclosed this in a statement said the Police Commissioner, CP Emmanuel Ado, warned members of the public against vigilantism in resolving social or marital disputes.

“The Yobe State Police Command strongly condemns domestic violence and describes it as an uncivilised and unlawful means of addressing civil or marital disputes,” the statement read.

“This follows an incident that occurred on 01st February, 2026 at about 1230 hours in Bundila Village, Gulani Local Government Area. One Alhaji Hassan Umaru, aged 50 years, allegedly suspected Sukari Abdul, aged 45 years, both of the same address, of having an affair with his wife.

“In the course of the confrontation, the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with a sharp cutlass, inflicting fatal injuries to his neck at the market square in Bundila.

“Personnel of the Bara Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly responded to the incident and rushed the victim to Bularaba Primary Health Care Facility for medical attention, where he was confirmed d3ad by a medical practitioner.

“The suspect was immediately apprehended, while the cutlass used in committing the offence was recovered. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for discreet and thorough investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, PSC, FDC, warns members of the public against vigilantism and all forms of self-help or uncivilised actions in resolving social or marital disputes.

“He urges individuals to report grievances to the appropriate authorities rather than resort to arbitrary actions. The CP reiterates that the Command will not hesitate to prosecute anyone found wanting in accordance with the law.”
