Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard has advised manager, Arne Slot to drop Cody Gakpo and play Rio Ngumoha after the team’s 2-1 defeat to Wolves in the Premier League on Tuesday night.
Mohamed Salah’s second-half goal was not enough as Wolves defeated the Reds at Molineux.
Gakpo started on Liverpool’s left flank, but Gerrard believes Ngumoha, who came on as a substitute against Wolves, should now replace the Netherlands international in Slot’s starting XI in Liverpool’s next game.
Speaking on TNT Sports, Gerrard expressed his displeasure over
Gakpo’s display against Wolves.
“He [Slot] has to start Ngumoha now. He has to start him because he is coming on and he is doing more in a short cameo in a short space of time than Gakpo’s doing in 65, 70 minutes,” Gerrard said.
“He deserves to start now. He’s got to start the kid on Friday night [in the FA Cup].”
The result means Liverpool is now in the 5th position in the Premier League table.
Liverpool will face Wolves in the FA Cup in their next game on Friday.
