A source within the commission disclosed to Sahara Reporters that the questioning followed the interception of the judge’s wife by EFCC operatives during a trip.

Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday reportedly questioned the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, John Tsoho, for several hours over a large sum of cash allegedly discovered in the possession of his wife.

A source within the commission disclosed to Sahara Reporters that the questioning followed the interception of the judge’s wife by EFCC operatives during a trip.

“EFCC interrogated the Chief Judge, Tsoho, for hours on Tuesday over his wife’s cash haul,” the source said.

According to reports, the development follows an earlier incident in which the judge’s wife was intercepted by EFCC operatives while travelling to Benue State.

Sources familiar with the matter said she was subsequently returned to Abuja, where officials allegedly discovered $160,000 in cash in her possession at the point of interception.

However, the circumstances surrounding the funds and the purpose of the trip have not yet been officially clarified.

Meanwhile, Justice Tsoho is expected to appear before the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) on March 16, 2026, over allegations relating to asset declaration.

A petition accused the Chief Judge of failing to declare certain assets, including three bank accounts with United Bank for Africa and another with Access Bank.

Under Nigerian law, public officials are required to declare all assets, liabilities and bank accounts, including domiciliary accounts.

If the bureau establishes a prima facie case, charges could be initiated against the judge.

A conviction may attract penalties including up to 10 years imprisonment and a 10-year ban from holding public office.

In a statement issued by Catherine Christopher, Director of Information at the Federal High Court, the court said the Chief Judge remains committed to cooperating with the bureau.

The statement also noted that Justice Tsoho would appear alongside his legal representative, Kanu Agabi, who is currently outside the country for medical reasons.

“The Honourable Chief Judge remains fully committed to cooperating with the Code of Conduct Bureau in respect of its invitation,” the statement read.

According to the court, Agabi has indicated his willingness to accompany the Chief Judge to the bureau upon his return to Nigeria.
