Nigerian entrepreneur Grace Makun has voiced her surprise over what parents now include in party packs for children’s birthday celebrations.
Makun, who is married to popular Nigerian fashion designer Yomi Casual, noted that in the past, party packs often contained toys and educational items, making them exciting for kids.
However, she observed that many parents today are opting for food items instead, such as noodles, rice, sugar, Milo, Maggi, and cereal, giving the packs more of a charitable feel than a playful one.
In a post on social media, she wrote: “Party packs are starting to look like a charity project. What happened to toys, educational resources, and simple treats? Now it’s indomie, bag of rice, sugar, Milo, Maggi, cereal.”
She continued with a touch of humor: “What is going on? Someone should update me… I’ve been missing a lot on this Obasanjo internet lately. Is this the new trend? Did someone announce it and I just didn’t hear?”
Makun’s comments have sparked conversations online, with many questioning whether this shift reflects changing parenting priorities or simply a new party pack trend.
