An 18-year-old man accused of s3xually ass@ulting his 10-year-old disabled biological brother has been remanded in custody after appearing before the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo, South Africa .
The accused appeared in court in connection with an alleged incident that took place at Ga-Kopa in Tafelkop, within the Motetema area of Limpopo. The matter has been postponed until March 18 to allow for a formal bail application.
According to Malesela Ledwaba, the incident reportedly occurred on February 26 while the children’s mother was away attending a funeral. The case only came to light several days later when the mother noticed that the younger child appeared to be in pain while she was bathing him.
Ledwaba said the boy later disclosed that his older brother had s3xually v!olated him. The matter was subsequently reported to the Motetema Police Station and later transferred to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Groblersdal for further investigation. Police arrested the suspect on the same day the case was reported.
Thembi Hadebe, the provincial police commissioner, strongly condemned the alleged crime, describing it as particularly disturbing because of the vulnerability of the victim.
“This crime allegedly committed by a biological brother against a vulnerable child is particularly shocking. Parents and guardians must report this type of heinous incident immediately to the police, regardless of who the perpetrator is,” Hadebe said.
