Police bust car theft syndicate, arrest two suspects and recover stolen Toyota Camry in Akure

The Ondo State Police Command has bust a car theft syndicate and arrested two suspects in Akure.

The spokesperson of the command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 said police also recovered a stolen Toyota Camry from the suspects.

According to the PPRO, a report was filed by one Robert Adeyemi, who said he that he had attended a social event on February 14, 2026 in Akure where his car was stolen.

Acting swiftly on the complaint, detectives launched an investigation, deploying intelligence and other strategies to track the vehicle and those behind the theft.

Operatives later traced the car to one Awolo Akingbade.

Further findings revealed that the vehicle had been sold to him by the principal suspect, David Adeyemi, who was later apprehended by the police.

“In its continuous efforts to protect the lives and property of the good people and residents of Ondo State, the Ondo State Police Command under the stewardship of Cp Adebowale Lawal Psc(+), mnips wishes to inform the general public of a significant breakthrough in the investigation of a case of conspiracy, stealing, and receiving stolen property, which has led to the successful recovery of a stolen vehicle and the arrest of two suspects connected to the criminal act,” the statement read.

“On February 27, 2026, the Command received a complaint from one Adeyemi Robert ‘M’, who reported that on February 14, 2026, he attended a social event at Sijuade Street, Akure.

“According to the complainant, he had driven to the venue with his Toyota Camry saloon car with registration number AH173WWD, custom colour, which he parked in front of the event venue.

“However, upon returning after the event, he discovered that the vehicle had been stolen by unknown persons.

“Following the report, detectives immediately commenced investigation into the matter, deploying intelligence gathering and other investigative strategies aimed at recovering the stolen vehicle and apprehending those responsible.

“Through diligent investigative efforts, police operatives successfully traced the stolen vehicle to one Awolo Akingbade ‘M’, aged 40 years, who was found in possession of the car.

“He was immediately invited for questioning.

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had been sold to him by the principal suspect identified as Adeyemi David ‘M’, who was subsequently arrested by the police.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect allegedly stole the vehicle and disposed of it by selling it to the said buyer.

“The stolen Toyota Camry has since been recovered and brought to the police station as exhibit, while both suspects have assisted the police with useful information to aid the investigation. The suspects have been charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, commended the operatives involved in the operation for their diligence and professionalism which led to the successful recovery of the vehicle and arrest of the suspects.

“He further reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state and warned individuals involved in criminal activities to desist, emphasizing that the police will continue to deploy intelligence-driven strategies to identify, track, and bring perpetrators of crime to justice.

“The Command also encourages members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to support the police by providing timely, credible and actionable information that can assist in preventing and combating crime in the state.”
