Former Manchester City defender, Pablo Zabaleta, has backed Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi to return to Barcelona and finish his career at the Spanish LaLiga champions.
There have been talks of Messi returning to Barcelona in the near future, especially since Joan Laporta was re-elected the club’s president.
Messi left Barcelona to join Paris Saint-Germain in 2021 after the Catalan club failed to renew his contract to remain at Camp Nou.
The Argentine forward eventually left the French Ligue 1 champions to join Inter Miami in 2023.
However, when asked if Messi should finish his career at Barcelona, Zabaleta told Flashscore, “There’s been so much talk about that, especially with the presidential elections at the club.
“He went to PSG, then decided on Inter Miami, and I think at that stage of a career, sometimes you are looking for more than just football.
“Miami is a wonderful place to raise a family, Inter Miami was a new and exciting project, and wherever Messi goes, he wins. He’s already won the MLS Cup.
“As for a return to Barcelona – why not? A last dance? I’d love to see it,” he said.
