The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with an attack on officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Ikere-Ekiti.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Sunday Abutu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, April 2, 2026.

Abutu who said that the incident occurred on April 2, 2026, at about 8:00 a.m, also disclosed that the police recovered weapons and a vehicle allegedly used during the incident.

According to the statement, about 20 hoodlums armed with dangerous weapons stormed the NURTW Lagos Motor Park in Ikere-Ekiti in five vehicles.

The attackers reportedly targeted executives of the park in an attempt to forcibly take over its leadership.

During the attack, the suspects were also alleged to have destroyed campaign posters of the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, in parts of Ikere-Ekiti.

The command said it responded to a distress call and deployed officers to the scene, leading to the arrest of two suspects identified as Sunday Ogunsakin and Gbenga Oluwatosin, while others fled.

Items recovered from the suspects include three cutlasses, a jackknife and a Toyota Previa bus believed to have been used in the operation.

The police added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Reacting, the Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, urged residents to remain law-abiding and avoid taking the law into their own hands.

He warned against acts capable of breaching public peace, including the violation of citizens’ rights, and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining the relative calm in the state.
