US President Donald Trump has criticised the Supreme Court of the United States as it considers the future of birthright citizenship, describing the issue as a “money making hoax.”

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “It’s too bad that the Supreme Court can’t watch and study the Mark Levin Show tonight on the Birthright Citizenship Scam.”

He continued: “If they saw it they would never allow that money making HOAX to continue. THEY SHOULD USE THEIR POWERS OF COMMON SENSE FOR THE GOOD OF OUR COUNTRY.”

The president also criticised the court’s previous rulings, particularly on tariffs, saying:

“They failed miserably on Tariffs, needlessly costing the USA Hundreds of Billions of Dollars in potential rebates… The Country can only withstand so many bad decisions from a Court that just doesn’t seem to care.”

The Supreme Court, which currently has a conservative majority, is reviewing arguments related to the interpretation of birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution. Trump has previously expressed frustration with the court despite having appointed three of its conservative justices.

Earlier in February, he criticised the justices for ruling against aspects of his tariff policies, saying he was “ashamed” of certain members of the court.

The president also attended a recent court hearing in person alongside Attorney General Pam Bondi, where Solicitor General D John Sauer presented arguments challenging existing interpretations of birthright citizenship.

The debate has been amplified by media figures such as Mark Levin, whose programme Trump referenced, arguing against automatic citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants.

Trump’s comments come amid a broader series of statements on foreign policy and domestic issues, including recent threats directed at Iran over the Strait of Hormuz. His remarks have drawn criticism from several political figures, including Hakeem Jeffries, Tim Kaine, and Marjorie Taylor Greene. Greene wrote: “Everyone in his administration that claims to be a Christian needs to fall on their knees and beg forgiveness… he has gone insane, and all of you are complicit.”

The issue of birthright citizenship remains a contentious legal and political debate in the United States, with the court’s eventual decision expected to have far-reaching implications.
