President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has acknowledged the growing hardship caused by rising fuel prices, while urging Nigerians to remain hopeful.

The President made the remarks on Friday during his visit to Bayelsa State, where he inaugurated several projects and addressed concerns about the country’s economic situation.

“I hear you from various angles of the economy. The fuel price is biting hard, but look around. Let us just thank God together that you are better off,” Tinubu said.

He further compared Nigeria’s situation with other African countries, noting that the current challenges are not unique to the nation.

“Listen to them in Kenya and other African countries, what they are going through. We will not look back. We will continue to find ways to ameliorate the suffering of the vulnerable. This is a government that cares,” he added.

Tinubu also stated that the government is working to ease the burden on citizens, attributing the economic strain to global factors affecting interconnected economies.

“The challenge is from a war we did not call for, but the effects of the interrelated world that we share. Both the joy and pain of it are universal,” he concluded.

Since assuming office in May 2023, the administration has introduced key economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira.

Although these policies are designed to promote long-term economic stability, they have also driven up inflation and increased the cost of living, leaving many Nigerians struggling to cope.
