The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, has secured the conviction of a 20-year-old drug suspect, Muhammad Maharazu.

Maharazu was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for drug-related offences and attempted violent resistance during arrest.

Justice S.M. Shuaibu of the Federal High Court, Kano, handed down the sentence on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 following his prosecution by the anti-narcotics agency.

The court ordered that the jail term should take effect from the date of judgment, with no option of fine.

According to a statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, the convict was arrested on February 14, 2026, during an operation at Filin Idi, a location described by the agency as a notorious drug den in Kano.

He was reportedly found in possession of various illicit substances, including Diazepam tablets.

The agency disclosed that while operatives were pursuing him, Maharazu allegedly drew a long knife in an attempt to attack officers and evade arrest.

He was, however, tactically disarmed and taken into custody before being charged to court.

Reacting to the judgment, Commander of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, DY Lawal, commended the Federal High Court for what he described as a decisive ruling.

“We are grateful to the Federal High Court and to Hon. Justice S.M. Shuaibu for this judgment. It sends a clear message that no amount of threats or violence will deter our officers from carrying out their lawful mandate,” he said.
