Rapper Megan Thee Stallion has secured a legal victory in her case against blogger Milagro Cooper, but a federal judge has refused her request to impose a permanent restriction on the critic’s online activity.

Court documents show that while a jury found Cooper liable for defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress and promoting a deepfake video involving the artist, the judge declined to grant a permanent injunction for alleged cyberstalking.

The jury awarded Megan Thee Stallion $75,000 in damages, including compensation related to emotional distress and the circulation of a deepfake video. However, the court ruled that this did not automatically justify further legal restrictions on Cooper’s future conduct.

In the ruling, the judge noted there was no evidence that Cooper had attempted to physically approach or contact the rapper. The court found no indication she tried to attend performances, track her location or directly communicate with her, which was considered a key factor in failing to meet the legal threshold for cyberstalking.

The judge also held that the damages awarded already satisfied what the law provides in such cases, stating there was no sufficient basis for additional remedies.

Megan’s claim that she continued to face harm after the verdict was also rejected. The court said she had not demonstrated any “real, immediate threat” going forward, only the possibility of future issues.

The judge further warned that granting the injunction would amount to a “prior restraint” on free speech, meaning it would prevent Cooper from making statements before they are even made, raising constitutional concerns under the First Amendment.

The decision means that while Megan Thee Stallion succeeded in proving wrongdoing and receiving compensation, the court will not impose restrictions limiting Cooper’s future speech or online activity.
