Veteran Nollywood actor and producer Solomon Akiyesi is dead.
The veteran passed away in his sleep on Sunday, April 26th, 2026.
The sad news was confirmed by the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Abubakar Yakubu, on Monday, April 27th.
He said that the actor died in Abuja and his remains have been deposited at a mortuary while the guild awaits further details from his family.
“Yes, it is true. He died yesterday. He slept and did not wake up. His body is in the morgue in Abuja, where the sad incident happened.
The actor’s wife also confirmed his death, revealing that he passed on Sunday.
Solomon, a native of Akoko-Edo in Edo State, joined the Nigerian film industry in the late 1990s. With a career spanning over two decades, he featured in more than 100 productions, earning a reputation as a versatile character actor.
His notable film credits include “Marry Who You Love,” “Heart of a Saint,” “Deadly Affair,” and “Pretty Liars.”
In February, Yoruba Nollywood industry lost one of their beloved, Aunty Ajara, after a long and courageous battle with illness.
Her death came while Yoruba Nollywood was still dealing with the loss of Allwell Ademola, who passes away after suffering a heart attack at her residence. The likes of Damola Olatunji, Mr Latin, Faithia Williams, and Bidemi Kosoko were the first to mourn her.
Earlier this month, gospel singer, Taiwo Adegbodu had passed away. According to reports on Facebook, the gospel singer, who is a twin, died in the middle of the night.
In January, gospel singer and evangelist Bunmi Akinaanu, better known as Omije Ojumi, passed away. According to reports, the singer took ill around 2025, and all efforts to get her back on her feet were futile.
The death of Bunmi Akinaanu is coming after the death of popular singer, Aduke Gold, who was pronounced dead by medical experts.
