Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has called on billionaire businessman, Tony Elumelu, to release bloggers allegedly arrested over comments made about him online.
Sowore made the demand in a strongly worded statement, criticizing what he described as an attempt to silence online voices while benefiting from the same digital platforms.
“Those guys should be released immediately, we’ve asked them to release those boys,” he said.
He further questioned why Elumelu would be concerned about online criticism despite maintaining a visible presence on social media.
“Even Tony Elumelu lives his life on the internet, always showing that he has private jets and all, why’s he worried about being spoken about on the internet?” Sowore added.
In a more pointed remark, the activist described the businessman as highly active online, suggesting a contradiction in his alleged actions.
“Tony Elumelu is the biggest content creator in the billionaire industry, he cannot be benefiting from social media and then arr£sting bloggers who talk about him,” he stated.
The comments have since sparked conversations online, with users divided over the issue—some supporting Sowore’s stance on freedom of expression, while others argue that individuals have the right to take legal action against defamatory content.
