PGMOL chief, Howard Webb, has given his verdict on West Ham United’s disallowed goal against Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday.
Arsenal won 1-0 against West Ham at the London Stadium after Leandro Trossard scored the only goal of the match.
However, West Ham United player Callum Wilson’s late goal was cancelled by the match referee Chris Kavanagh after VAR called his attention.
Speaking on the development in the latest instalment of Match Officials Mic’d Up, Webb insisted that Kavanagh made the right decision by not allowing West Ham’s goal to count.
According to him, the foul from the West Ham player Pablo on Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya was a clear offence.
“Is it a foul on the goalkeeper? Categorically yes,” Webb said. “We have said all season, including in pre-season briefings with the players, that if a goalkeeper is impeded by an opponent holding their arm and therefore they can’t do their job, they will be penalised.
“So, when you see the best angle on this, you will see that that is what happens from Pablo. And on the video, it’s clear, and it happens early.”
