The Arsenal Football Club’s board has reportedly decided to continue backing Mikel Arteta and is now preparing to open talks over a new contract extension this summer.

There are multiple reports from North London claiming that the decision to extend Arteta’s contract was made internally months ago. There are also reports that the decision is not dependent on whether Arsenal win the Premier League or the UEFA Champions League this season.

The Arsenal hierarchy is said to remain fully convinced by Arteta’s long-term project at the Emirates after the Spaniard guided the club back into Europe’s elite and into their first Champions League final in two decades. Despite the distractions and comments from the public during the campaign, the board reportedly views Arteta as the right man to lead the next phase of the club’s development.

The reports also suggest Arsenal want to avoid uncertainty surrounding Arteta’s current deal, which runs until 2027. Club officials are believed to value the stability he has brought since taking charge in 2019, with talks expected to accelerate once the season concludes.

Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed Arteta remains “in love with the project” and he is fully committed to remaining. However, Arsenal supporters will hope that they will be able to end the season on a high by winning the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League a feat which has been achieved by Manchester United and Manchester City.
