Saudi Professional League team, Al-Nassr, has reached out to Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola regarding the possibility of him becoming their next manager.
The agent of the Spaniard has confirmed that Al-Nassr made contact with the former Barcelona coach about the opportunity to lead Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates in Saudi Arabia.
Guardiola has announced his intention to depart from Manchester City at the conclusion of the current season.
Josep Maria Orobitg, who has long represented Guardiola, clarified that the approach from Al-Nassr occurred prior to his client’s decision to leave City.
Reports indicate that Al-Nassr proposed an offer of nearly €130 million per season for Guardiola to take on the role of head coach. However, Orobitg has refuted this substantial figure, asserting that it was not as significant as reported.
He stated to Okaz, “There was contact a month and a half ago, merely contact, without any commitment or formal offer. It is not that much money.”
Guardiola’s agent also confirmed that the interaction was limited to contact and nothing beyond that. He remarked that Al-Nassr currently has no realistic chance of securing Guardiola’s services.
“There was also contact with the Saudi Arabian Federation about 15 days ago, but there will be no further discussions for the time being. At present, neither party has a significant opportunity to sign Guardiola.”
Guardiola departs Manchester City as their most accomplished manager, having secured 20 trophies during his decade-long tenure in England. He will continue to represent City Football Group, CFG, as one of their global ambassadors.
