Unidentified assailants suspected to be cultists have k!lled a youth identified simply as Marky in Aba, Abia State.

The incident occurred on May 24, 2026, at about 12:35 p.m.

It was gathered that the assailants pursued the victim and shot him d3ad inside an Apostolic Church near Opobo Junction in Ogbor Hill.

An anti-cultism organization, Confra Naija, claimed the incident was related to cult activities.

“Marky had reportedly gone for sports that morning at Opobo Junction in Ogbor Hill, Aba. It was reported that while he was returning from where he had gone, the hit squad sh0t him, and he ran into the church, where he lay on the altar. The attackers followed him into the church and sh0t him again, making sure he d!ed,” the organisation said.

The spokesperson for the State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, who confirmed the incident stated that the corpse of the victim has been recovered and deposited in a morgue for autopsy.

The PPRO said officers from the Eastern Ngwa Police Division, who were on patrol at Obikabia Junction, acted on intelligence that an unidentified person had been shot d3ad by gunmen.

She said the officers led a patrol team from Ohuru Division to the scene, where the deceased was found lifeless in a pool of his own blood.

“It was the DPO at Obikabia Junction that received the distress call, and his team went there,” she stated.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that he was pursued. The assailants who k!lled him pursued him as he was running towards the church, and they shot him in front of the church.”
