Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has dismissed reports linking him to a proposed 2027 presidential ticket alongside former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The clarification followed social media claims that Mohammed had been selected as Jonathan’s running mate after the former president emerged as the presidential candidate of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Kabiru Turaki.

Jonathan was adopted as the faction’s presidential candidate during a special convention held in Abuja on Saturday. Although he did not attend the event, a certificate of return was received on his behalf by Bayelsa lawmaker Fred Agbedi.

Speculation about a possible Jonathan-Mohammed ticket gained traction after ADC chieftain Nuhu Sada claimed on X that reports suggested the Bauchi governor could be chosen as the vice-presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 election.

However, Mohammed rejected the claims and said he is not involved in any such arrangement. In a statement posted on his verified X account, the governor said his political focus remains on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement.

“Thank you for your interest in my political aspirations. However, for the sake of clarity, my focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM),” he wrote.

He also urged the public to disregard reports suggesting he was pursuing a different political ambition. “Any reports suggesting a different political course should be disregarded as speculative and inaccurate,” the governor added.

Mohammed recently left the PDP for the APM amid ongoing leadership disputes and internal divisions within the opposition party.
