The Delta State Police Command has arrested three suspects and recovered large quantities of illegal drugs in separate intelligence-led operations across the state.

The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of three suspected drug traffickers and the seizure of significant quantities of illicit substances following separate intelligence-driven operations across the state.

In the first operation on June 3, officers from the Special Enquiry Unit conducting stop-and-search duties at the First Niger Bridge Head in Asaba intercepted a Mercedes truck driven by Obinna Nwosu, 47, from Oba in Anambra State.

The suspect claimed to be transporting plumbing materials, but a thorough search of the vehicle uncovered a large drug cache including 13,000 sachets of 100mg Tramadol, 100 sachets of 225mg Tramadol, 100 sachets of Swinol, 300 sachets of Rohypnol, 60 sachets of Codeine Phosphate tablets, and 100 tablets of MDMA, commonly known as “Molly.”

The suspect is in custody while investigators work to identify and apprehend others connected to the consignment.

In a separate operation on the same day, operatives from the Command Anti-Vice Squad raided a suspected drug distribution point in Alegbo Community, Owa-Alero, Ika North East Local Government Area, acting on credible intelligence.

Two suspects Henry Edward and Okwudili Kingsley were arrested at the location.

Items recovered included five gallons of fermented cannabis mixture known as “Monkey Tail,” along with large quantities of suspected Indian hemp and other illicit substances.

Both suspects and all recovered exhibits are currently in police custody.

The command described the operations as significant strides in its sustained crackdown on drug trafficking and substance abuse in the state.
