Human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has stated that his time in detention at the Kuje Correctional Centre has further reinforced his commitment to fighting for justice and advancing his political ideals.

Sowore made the declaration shortly after regaining his freedom following the approval of his bail application by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Taking to his social media platforms, the activist condemned what he described as his wrongful detention and took a swipe at the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Leaving Kuje Prison after being unjustly incarcerated by the failed traitor to the Nigerian people, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and his regime,” Sowore wrote.

He further maintained that imprisonment would not discourage his activism, saying: “Prison has never broken the resolve of those who fight for justice. If anything, it only strengthens our determination. The struggle continues. We will never surrender.”

Earlier, the Federal High Court in Abuja granted Sowore bail in the sum of ₦200 million.

As part of the bail requirements, the court directed him to produce two sureties. One of the sureties must be a recognised traditional ruler from his community, while the other must possess landed property within Abuja.

The presiding judge also instructed the prosecution to verify the credentials of the sureties and ordered Sowore to surrender his international passport to the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court until the case is concluded.

Following the ruling, the court released Sowore into the custody of his legal representatives and adjourned the matter until July 6, when the defence is expected to open its case.
