Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has claimed that social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), initially agreed to join the Movement of the People (MOP) before later changing his mind.
According to Seun, he and human rights activist Omoyele Sowore stood by VeryDarkMan during the incident and offered him support.
“I met VeryDarkMan when Paulo was trying to oppress him. They used the police to arrest him, and Sowore and I stood up for him.
That was when I discussed MOP with him. VDM is a deceiver; he told me he would join, but later he told me he wasn’t interested. This was in 2023, that was when we discussed it. We became friends afterwards. I never forced VeryDarkMan to join MOP.”
Seun maintained that he never pressured the activist to become a member of the movement, adding that the decision was entirely his to make.
His comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with some social media users questioning whose version of events to believe, while others defended VeryDarkMan or expressed interest in hearing more details about what transpired between the two.
