A violent clash between youths over a divorced woman has led to the d3ath of a 27-year-old man in Damaturu, Yobe State.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident in a statement on 30th June, 2026.

According to the PPRO, on June 29, at about 0300hrs, operatives of the ‘A’ Division, Damaturu, responded to a distress call concerning a violent clash at Kalam Hamlet, Damaturu.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Abubakar Hassan,30, had a misunderstanding with one Buba Usman, 23, over the divorced woman.

During the confrontation, Abubakar invited his three brothers — Ibrahim Hassan, 27, Isa Hassan, 20, and Aliyu Hassan, 30, to the scene.

Upon their arrival, Buba Usman allegedly attacked Ibrahim Hassan with an axe, inflicting a deep cut on his neck which resulted in his immediate d3ath.

He further injured Abubakar Hassan, Isa Hassan, and Aliyu Hassan with the same weapon.

“During the ensuing confrontation, relatives of the deceased allegedly attacked Buba Usman with arrows, causing injuries to his abdomen.

“Upon receipt of the report, police operatives visited the scene, evacuated the injured persons to the Teaching Hospital, Damaturu, for medical treatment, while the corpse of the deceased was deposited at the hospital morgue and later released to the family,” the statement read.

“The principal suspect, who is currently receiving treatment at the Teaching Hospital, Damaturu, has confessed to the crime. Investigation is ongoing.”
